Ident 05: My Bloody Valentine
Production & Design Development
For the final ident the motion that I had created previously seen in ident 02 for the film Halloween would appear again in a similar way so thought it best to skip a few idents then go back later and work on new motion for the others. My Bloody Valentine is set in a remote mining town where a subsequent series f murders takes place with the primary weapon being the axe. Playing on this object and using the motion on the heart that I had created before I created a simple idea about a heart being split into two parts by means of an axe.
01. Due to time restrictions and design changes I decided to alter how the ident looked, based on because it looked very different from the other idents and i wanted to keep much more of a consistency, hence text was removed and I altered the heart so it appeared to hang from a string. The first part was assembling the ident's compontents and getting the initial motion looking correct. This involved creating a simple pendulum motion using the graph editor again and creating a realistic smash from the axe that was not too slow or quick, plus of course adding a drip of blood for the injury sustained.
02. Although the whole motion of the ident came together quickly, I needed to considers more real physical movement not just within the axe but also the environment and camera. an axe being a heavy object that would give great impact need to show this. So I made simple adjustments to the movement in the camera and made small impact shudders on the heart as well.
03. With the movement sorted out the remaining part to place was audio. Using the given sound library I added a few simple sounds to create simple impact and used the Audio Levels tool adjust the sound accordingly so that the sound would appear more distant as the half of the heart hit the ground below.
Overall this ident was incredibly simple with little motion to animate but was enough to be simple and effective at communicating it's film. Having finished the ident I reconsidered using the text so the idents would be more consistent in appearance.
