Ident 02: Halloween
Production & Design Development

As a start I have begun constucting the final idents in preparation for the DVD studio session where I will compile all my videos onto disc. exciting stuff, until then though.

01. Using the initial sample I had created using the dripping motion experiment I took this and compiled my other video elements, this was particularly difficult arranging the elements such as getting the positioning of the scissor to move in whilst having a subtle open and close motion, as well as using vectors again to hide and reveal the face which turns into a five logo. This was fairly easy using the timing tool to insert the text when it became necessary.
Having established i wanted to produce realistic movement i realised that i needed to tae into account impact movemnt when the blade enters the heart it should shudder and bounce back.

[Below]: Using the positioning to to create realistic physical movement when the blade enters the object.

02. Again looking the idea of realism, although the drips were there surely if the heart is stabbed it will bleed more. So i inserted some extra drips with their counter part rebound splashes from where they came.

One of the hardest parts of the video creation was working with the idea of accurate physical movement, here was the creation of the movement in the reverse drip motion which follows the path of the scissors then stops and drips in a motion downwards.

*When working with movement it is important to take into account motion speed and acceleration using the Graph Editor tool.

03. Creating a realistic shudder from the impact of the scissors on the heart seemed half the problem. In theory to create impact the camera needed to shudder accordingly as well. So using the same kind of motion created before i simply adjusted the camera several time to create a shudder effect happening again as the knife was removed.

04. The final application to the ident is sound. Using the library that was given I used several sound to create more realism. I chose however tot not involve sound until the actual stabbing of the heart, this adds key suspense and like the films leaves you waiting for something unexpected to happen.

After reviewing the sound properly and critically, I edited the music to sync with the movemnt taking place and took out the bone crunching as it didn't seem to fit with what was going on and to look and texture created by the drips.
There are tweeks which are necessary and depending upon feedback I receive will determine whether I need to add more sound or text etc. Overall I'm quite impressed with myself, and from here the rest of the ident will follow suit obviously with different designs.
